CCL Youth Meet with AAUW Seattle

Lynn Dissinger and Fiona Goodchild joined a Zoom meeting that Rachael Foe set up with a few members of the Citizen’s Climate Lobby (CCL) youth group, students lobbying for environmental awareness and action. (You may remember our February program featuring Gwen Hanson of the Bellevue Citizen’s Climate Lobby.) The student attendees ranged from Grade 8 to Grade 12 and explained their interest in raising support for the Energy Innovation and a Carbon Dividend Act (H.R.763) .

Kunal Sinha introduced the students and led the discussion of their hopes to recruit support for the idea of a fee on the carbon content of fuels, including crude oil, natural gas, coal, or any other product derived from those fuels that will be used so as to emit greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. (More information can be found on the Citizen’s Climate Lobby website.) The students already have an impressive record of lobbying House members and are looking for other groups that wish to support their work on the economic impacts of pricing carbon.

If members would like to connect other students to the CCL youth group, email Lynn and Fiona at president@aauw-seattle.org and the message will be forwarded to Kunal. If you are interested in joining the efforts yourself, Rachael has started a Seattle CCL chapter and she can be reached at secretary@aauw-seattle.org.
