Team Awesome Basketball Leadership Academy – TABLA

Seattle Branch Sponsorship at Leadership Camp for Teen Athletes

For the second year, Seattle Branch sponsored a camper at the week-long Team Awesome Basketball Leadership Academy (TABLA) in July. TABLA fosters the development of communication, leadership, and advocacy skills in female athletes in 8th to 12th grade, through basketball. TABLA is run by Basketball Education in Action, which was founded by Bea Chang.  Branch member and Title IX attorney Amy Klosterman gave a brief talk to campers about Title IX. Gay Armsden coordinated the project.  Other members delivered staff lunches, and staffed the AAUW information table when families visited.

We all very much enjoyed participating and meeting such vibrant young women.
AAUW Seattle received a thank-you note from the TABLA staff, which read in part:

“Hearing about and seeing examples of strong, impactful women is inspiring for [the campers]… We appreciate your willingness to get involved with the youth in this community and make a difference in their lives.”
